President: Dale F. Eickelman

Dale F. Eickelman is the Ralph and Richard Lazarus Professor of Anthropology and Human Relations Emeritus at Dartmouth College and, since 2003, Relationship Coordinator for the Dartmouth College—American University of Kuwait Program. His publications include Knowledge and Power in Morocco (Princeton University Press, 1985, translated into Arabic, 2010); and Moroccan Islam: Tradition and Society in a Pilgrimage Center (University of Texas Press, 1976, reissued 2014 and translated into Arabic 1989), and six other books as well as over 80 journal articles and book chapters. Eickelman is a former President of the Middle East Studies Association of North America; a former fellow of the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton; and twice a Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin. In 2009 he was named a Carnegie Scholar for a project entitled “Mainstreaming Islam: Taking Charge of the Faith,” and he has held research awards from the Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the National Science Foundation. In 2011 he received the Distinguished Scholar Award from the Middle East Section of the American Anthropological Association.
