Mary Jeffers was a career foreign service officer with the U.S. Department of State until retiring in 2014. Her most recent Foreign Service posting was in Morocco (2008-2011), with previous assignments in South Africa, Uganda, Saudi Arabia, the U.K., Sudan and Algeria. Her first introduction to Morocco was as an archeological field researcher at Qsar es-Seghir, near Tangier, in 1980. She has a BA (Duke University), a MA (SUNY/Binghamton) in archeology/anthropology, and speaks French and some Arabic. Since retirement, she founded and runs a children’s bookstore (Where in The World Global Books), and has also taught at George Washington University and developed training programs for the State Department’s Foreign Service Institute. She is currently directing a project to update and integrate the various components of TALIM’s digital offerings.
