2016 AIMS Conference “Mediterranean Crossroads: Spanish-Maghribi Relations in Past and Present”

All of us at TALIM are very excited to host next year’s AIMS conference May 14-15, 2016. The theme, “Mediterranean Crossroads: Spanish-Maghribi Relations in Past and Present” is perfect for Tangier! Discussion of English Colonial Texts on Tangier, Nov 7

On November 7, 7:00 pm, TALIM will host a discussion with Professor Karim Bejjit of Hassan II University in Casablanca, of his 2015 book, English Colonial Texts on Tangier, 1661-1684. Dr. Bejjit will discuss this collection of 18 Restoration pamphlets written about England’s venture in ruling Tangier in the 17th century. Graduation Celebration for the Women’s Program

On Thursday TALIM held a graduation ceremony and celebration for the women in the Women’s Program that began in 1994.  Seventeen certificates were awarded for completion of the Arabic literacy class, 28 for sewing, and 14 for the cooking program, after which the women and their children were entertained by students in the Darna Theater Program.

Monday, March 9, 7 p.m. Movie Night “The Furies,” starring Barbara Stanwyck, Walter Huston.

Thursday, March 12, 4 p.m. “Languages in the Maghrib,” Lecture by American anthropologist and author Dr. Kenneth Brown. In partnership with the Tangier American Language Center.

Marche de Noël at the Legation

Morocco Launch of “A Gardener’s Garden” at the Museum

TALIM in partnership with Librarie des Colonnes welcomed landscape architect and Tangier resident Madison Cox to the Legation on November 12 for the Morocco launch of A Gardener’s Garden, published by Phaidon.

Madison, who currently serves on the TALIM Board, spoke of how he and his collaborators had made what must have been the difficult decisions on which of the world’s gardens, great and small, to include in this beautiful book.
