HISTORY

The Tangier American Legation in Morocco is the only U.S. National Historic Landmark located outside of the United States and is the symbol of a long friendship between the United States and Morocco. A gift of the Sultan of Morocco to the United States in 1821, and for over 140 years a US diplomatic mission, the Legation today is a vibrant museum and research and cultural center.
